Russian plane crashes in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula

By-CAIRO: A Russian plane carrying 217 passengers crashed to the ground in Egypt’s Sinai Saturday morning shortly after it departed Sharm al-Sheikh airport, Deputy Director of Sharm el-Sheikh Airport Hani Ramzy told ONTV Channel.

 

Debris of the plane has been found in Sinai, Sky new Arabia reported while official source at Sharm al-Sheikh airport told Reuters the plane went off radar and crashed “far from the Egyptian airspace.”

 

The plane belonged to Kogalymavia airline, a small airline based in Western Siberia, according to RT.

 

Youm7 quoted eyewitnesses who reported the plane crashing in Hasna Village in the center of North Sinai. Ambulance vehicles were deployed to the crash site.

 

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail has cancelled his scheduled visit to Ismailia city after a civilian plane fall in Sinai, a source of Ismailia governorate told Youm7.
